Iryna Hrabovska
Based in Kyiv, Ukraine
When the American science fiction and fantasy magazine Locus introduced its readers to ten Ukrainian SF/F writers worth translating, Iryna Hrabovska was one of them. She is a novelist and blogger who builds detailed imaginary worlds from real European history, and she is one of the voices shaping contemporary Ukrainian-language fantasy.
She is also visible in the international genre community. She took part in a roundtable on Ukrainian women writers of science fiction and fantasy, published in Vector, the critical journal of the British Science Fiction Association. She is a co-founder of Fantastic talk(s), a literary association and video project run by Ukrainian fantasy writers.
Her writing spans steampunk, fantasy, sword and sorcery genres, and speculative fiction. She is particularly interested in creating imaginary worlds, complex characters, and stories that explore personal choices, conflicts, and transformations.
She is also actively involved in promoting Ukrainian SFF and contributes to literary and educational projects focused on the genre.
