Nataliya Dovhopol
Based in Athens, Greece
Locus magazine named Nataliya Dovhopol among ten Ukrainian SF/F writers worth translating. Her short fiction and poetry have since appeared in English, French, Romanian and Greek. She is a novelist and civic activist with a postgraduate degree in art history, and she turns little-known pages of Ukrainian and European history into fantasy and adventure.
Her presence in the international genre scene is steady. She is a co-founder of Fantastic Talk(s), a community of Ukrainian fantasy writers whose video series on the history of Ukrainian SF won a European Science Fiction Society award at Eurocon 2023. Her stories appear in Galaxy 42, a Romanian science fiction magazine. Her poems are included in the anthologies of the Athens World Poetry Festival.
Her novels move freely across centuries and age groups. Finding the Amazon’s Land (2022) follows teenagers in 16th–18th-century Ukraine, chasing a legend of warrior women once told among the local nobility. The Knight of the Drevlyanian Land and the Lady Eagle (2023) is a romantic fantasy steeped in witchcraft and old Slavic lore. The Cursed Sky (2019) tells of a 17th-century village girl with a rare gift for astronomy, who reads the night sky like an open book. She also writes for younger readers, with the Spy from Artemis Shelter (2019) series and The Ghosts of the Edelweiss Hotel (2021), and she wrote a biographical family novel, Cuba That Didn’t Happen (2021).
She is the author of twelve novels, and some of her books have been recognised at the book pitch of the Odesa International Film Festival.
