“Serhii Artemov. In Memoriam”

The Ukrainian Institute has published a collection of sheet music by the late jazz musician Serhii Artemov, who lost his life in the war. This collection features eight previously unpublished pieces that Artemov composed with fellow musicians prior to the full-scale invasion. It also includes reflections from his colleagues, along with QR codes linking to live performances of select works. Additionally, descriptions by his fellow musicians offer insights into his music, allowing the audience to deepen their understanding of his artistry and legacy. His contributions also enriched projects such as Dark Side Trio, Danylo Vinarikov Ensemble, Elevation Trio, and others. He performed with artists from around the world, including Godwin Louis, Christopher McBride, Charles Turner, Breezy Rodio, Will Jacobs, Noreda Graves, Onita Boone, and Khailf Wailin' Walter. Serhii was a cherished friend of the Ukrainian Institute, collaborating in 2020 as part of the Am I Jazz? online showcase with the Danylo Vinarikov Ensemble. He also joined tours in Poland at the Szczecin Jazz and Good Vibe Festival in 2021. In memory of his friend and colleague Serhii Artemov, renowned saxophonist and composer Danylo Vinarikov organized the ARTEMOV Jazz Festival, held from October 11–13 in Dnipro. This festival celebrated Serhii’s life, artistry, and significant contributions to the jazz community, bringing together musicians and audiences to honor his legacy. There have been concerts of jazz bands from various parts of Ukraine, each of them has performed one of the pieces by Serhii Artemov. On 29th October there has been a concert and a jam session for Serhii Artemov at NUEJAZZ FESTIVAL in Nuernberg, Germany.
